Giving Up Your Pet

What is your admissions policy for the relinquishment of owned or stray pets?

The Fredericksburg Regional SPCA is a No-Kill facility.  We do not euthanize an animal due to lack of space or length of stay.  For this reason, space is at a premium and we are not able to admit all pets at all times.  We currently assist residents in the City of Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Caroline County.  Please call our cat intake line (898-1500 x702) or dog intake line (898-1500 x703) to see if we are adding names to our wait list for admission.  If you live in the City of Fredericksburg or have found kittens or puppies under the age of 6 weeks of age, please call our front desk at 898-1500 x301 for further information.

If your pet is added to our waiting list, it is our hope that the owner works proactively to find a new home for the pet.  We can assist the owner by providing lists of other pet rescue and adoption resources that may have space to accept the animal.  Many times an owner feels that he or she must give up a family pet because of behavioral issues.  For free behavioral assistance, please call 540-898-1500 x301 or check our website under Services--Behavior Help.  If you have found a stray animal, please review the information under Services--Missing/Found Pets.
